Two men attack pharmacist, take away Rs 13 K from medical store

HYDERABAD: A pharmacist was attacked with a sharp weapon by two men who took away Rs 13,000 from the cash counter at a medical store near L B Nagar Ring Road on Wednesday morning. The pharmacist, A Hariprasad, 26, suffered injuries on his throat and is said to be out of danger.

“At around 8.30 am, a person came to Hetero Pharmacy and purchased Band-Aid and left. After sometime, he returned with another person. While one made enquiries about an ointment, the other person holding a sharp-edged weapon came to the cash counter,” Hariprasad told TOI.

“The duo overpowered me and took me into the store room. They threatened me with the weapon and demanded cash. When I refused, the person holding the weapon attacked me on my neck,” he added.

The second assailant went to the cash counter, opened it and snatched wads of cash. The two then fled from the spot, he said.

“My colleague saw blood oozing from the injury and took me to Medicare Hospital,” he added.

“The two persons stole over Rs 13,000 cash from the cash counter,” M Aruna, another pharmacist working at the medical shop, confirmed.

“A dog squad was sent to the crime spot. A blood stain was found on the cash counter, while a Band-Aid strip was also found. The sniffer dogs went directly to Medicare Hospital from the Hetero Pharmacy and stopped there. The age of the two assailants might be around 30 years,” L B Nagar inspector of police, M Sreedhar Reddy said.

A case was registered under section 394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the inspector added.
