Sarasaparilla(Smilax regelii)

Common Name: Indian Sarasaparilla, Anantamoo
Plant name: Smilax regelii
Chemical constituents: Many Smilax species contain a number of steroidal saponins  including sarsaponin, smilasaponin (smilacin), sarsaparilloside and its aglycones sarsasaponin (parillin), sarsasapogenin (parigenin), and smilagenin. Also include starch (50%), resin, cetyl alcohol, volatile oil, 1 , 2 caffeoylshikimic acid, shikimic acid and ferulic acid.

Sarsaparilla has been used for treating syphilis, leprosy, psoriasis, and other ailments.
Used in acne, eczema, fungal infections, and similar skin conditions.
Sarsaparilla is also used to treat venereal diseases, herpes, arthritis, gout and  epilepsy.
 Used  for treating leprosy and skin problems such as psoriasis and dermatitis.
European physicians use sarsaparilla root as a tonic, blood purifier, diuretic, and sweat promoter\
