Dr Reddy’s looks to foray into Japanese generic drug market

Indian pharma major Dr Reddy’s Laboratories is looking for partners to enter into the Japanese generic drug market.

At present Dr Reddy’s has a small presence in Japan through its active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) business.
The Japanese government is said to be interested in increasing the share of generic drugs to 30% of the total market over the next three years.
Biosimilars, where Dr Reddy’s has considerable presence, is another area that is expected open up opportunities for the company.
Reportedly, Dr Reddy’s is in talks with Towa Pharmaceutical, Sawai Pharmaceutical and Fuji Pharma to buy a stake.
Dr Reddy’s spokesman S Rajan said that the company is in early stages of evaluating partnership options as part of its Japan entry strategy.
